I can’t say that I’ve been a huge fan of Jay Leno and The Tonight Show over the years though I have caught quite a few episodes. Some were funny, yes, but I feel like many of the recent shows have been less than creative and a little far from humorous. That’s just me, though.

However, Jay’s farewell show tonight was something to see. It was a very classy send-off. He had his successor, Conan, on for an interview, a nostalgic performance from James Taylor, and then thank-yous to those who’d been there in his life and career.

He ended the night talking about the legacy he’d leave with The Tonight Show and what that meant to him. He introduced to us 68 kids who were born to couples who met or were working during Jay’s tenure as host. Jay looked past his career, past his fame, and recognized the lives around him that were responsible for helping make him who he was.

Jay Leno, you’re a class act. Bravo.

And I really am excited to see Conan O’Brien take over The Tonight Show. This should be fun.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love.

He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory.

In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s own people, to the praise of his glory.

Eph. 1:3-14

Blessed is he who understands what it is to love Jesus and to despise himself for Jesus’ sake. Jesus wants to be your only love and to be loved above all else; therefore, you must abandon all other beloveds for your one Beloved. The love of a creature is fickle and deceitful, while the love of Jesus is faithful and enduring. He who clings to a creature will fall when that creature fades away, but he who embraces Jesus shall stand firm forever.

Love Jesus and keep Him as your friend. When all others forsake you He will not leave you nor will He allow you to perish on the last day. Whether you like it or not the day will come when you will find yourself separated from everyone and from everything.

2. Hold fast to Jesus both in life and in death and commit yourself to His steadfast love, for He alone can help you when all others fail. Your Beloved is such that He admits no rival; He wants your heart all to Himself and desires to reign there as a king on his own throne.

If you could free yourself from all creatures Jesus would gladly dwell within you. If you have placed your trust in men rather than in Jesus you will find that it was almost all wasted. Do not trust nor lean on a reed that is shaken in the wind. All flesh is grass, and all its glory shall fade like the flower in the field.

3. If you only look upon men’s outward appearance you will soon be deceived, and if you seek consolation and profit from them most often you will end up being the loser. If you seek Jesus in everything you will certainly find Him, and if you seek yourself you will surely find yourself, but to your own disaster. You do yourself greater harm by not seeking Jesus than if the whole world and all your enemies were against you.

mother_and_childHappy Mothers’ Day to all the mothers out there and especially to my mother who has been beyond wonderful to me and the rest of the family. The selflessness, graciousness and love displayed by my mom are beyond the reach of words.

So, the next best thing is to revive a time-honored tradition of making fun of your mom. All in love, of course.

Yo mama’s so fat her picture takes two frames.

Yo mama’s so fat that when she crosses the street cars look out for her.

Yo mama’s so stupid that when you stand beside her you can actually hear the ocean.

Yo mama’s so fat I swerved to avoid her and ran out of gas.

Ooo, what you got?

I think I’m doing okay, you know?

I’ve achieved some stuff in my life so far.

I’ve accomplished some goals.

I’ve discovered some talents and tried to put them to use.

I’m trying to do some good, looking to make a difference around me.

I think, for the most part, I’m progressing nicely as a human being, contributing my small but worthwhile portion to humanity.

Despite all those things, though, I continually remind myself that I am a failure at cleanly and effectively peeling a hard-boiled egg.

What’s wrong with me??
